5v5 Comp. Name FAQ

Since I see a ton of people asking about what name corresponds to what comp, I'll post what each of them stands for and where it came from (at least from the ones I know).
Classes marked with (*) generally have several specs they can be on that comp, such as FG or SLSL warlocks.

Name: 2345
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, frost mage, elemental shaman
Explanation: Being very popular/strong in the end of S1/beginning of S2, the name "2345" is a joke on the shaman in that composition (which was the new fotm), saying he only needs to press 4 buttons - 2345, where 1 would be his default autoattack, 2 heroism, 3 NS, 4 EM, 5 CL (the exact numbers vary).

Name: 2346
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, FG warlock(*), elemental shaman
Explanation: Comes from "being greater than 2345" as this composition was very strong against 2345 when it first came out, and was considered it's successor.

Name: 2347
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, balance druid, elemental shaman
Explanation: Continuation of the 234... saga swapping different casters in the last spot.

Name: Drain
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, FG warlock(*), marksman hunter
Explanation: Initially comes from the high mana drain capabilities this team has with Drain Mana, Viper Sting and Mana Burn. Nowadays however, it is mostly played with the warlock straight up maximizing damage, but the hunter/priest still tend to drain mana quite well.

Name: Team Asia(/Point ATAX!!) or 3healer drain
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, resto druid, SLSL warlock(*), hunter (Note: healer classes can vary)
Explanation: "Team Asia" is originally the name of a team that was successful with this setup in s2, and the setup adopted their name. "3 healer drain" is similar to the "drain" team, but indicating that it has 3 healers, and still plays like a mana drain first, then kill setup.

Name: TSG
Composition: Holy paladin, resto druid, MS warrior, FG warlock(*), frost mage
Explanation: Comes from the name of one of the first/more seen teams that played this setup.

Name: Euro
Composition: Resto druid, disc priest, ShS rogue, FG warlock(*), frost mage
Explanation: This setup originally became common in European battlegroups, before it spread over to the US battlegroups too.

Name: Cleave / Melee / Trifecta
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, ShS rogue, MS warrior, enhancement shaman
Explanation: The name "Cleave" comes from the team literally "cleaving" people to death (not in the warrior ability sense) with it's heavy melee setup. The name "melee" obviously originated from the same source. "Trifecta" is what Serennia called this team when he started running it, and (forgive me my bias) is totally unrelated to the composition as the word "trifecta" literally means "a bet to guess the first three horses in horse racing", which could as well refer to any single 3 DPS or 3 healer setup. But hey, it sounds cool!!
I personally prefer the name "CLEVE TEM".

Additions:

Name: Balance
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, FG warlock (*), frost mage
Explanation: Named for the balance of the setup in regards to CC, damage, and general defensive/offensive capabilities.

Name: X/Y
Composition: Holy paladin, disc priest, MS warrior, X, Y
Explanation: Because the general frame of holy paladin, disc priest and MS warrior was traditionally common across all setups, sometimes setups are abbreviated by the two other classes, without explicitly mentioning the first three.
Examples: Shaman/Hunter, Mage/Hunter

Notes:
- When a single class is replaced by another, often the new composition will simply be called "old name" + "with x"; such as "2345 with druid" or "cleave with druid". While this can cause some confusion as to what class is replaced, it generally saves a lot of extra numbering.

Found this on another site, figured could help a few of the people new to 5s out. Report for sticky please!

Minja is on a distinguished road
Name: Minja's 5s team (a.k.a. 23)
Composition: Shaman, Hunter, Priest, Priest, Druid
Explanation: Named 23 because all shamans have to hit is purge and heroism. Insta-oom anyone on the enemy team, then shaman/hunter/priests nuke as the druid stays on healing/cc.

Haha I ran a "cleve tem" in s3 to 2300-ish. It was a fun setup but we ended up breaking up cause our rogue quit. We ran it with a felguard lock too for a while (in place of the rogue) and that worked fairly well. I of course ended up quitting the game for 2ish months. Its my move

I might be going back to my oldschool setup, which I have never seen other than the 4 other guys I run it with. MS war/holy pal/ele sham/DESTRO lock/ice mage!!!

Lol he runs FG as well and that tends to work better but even when he is FG we still call him destro. Requires sick healing and fast switches.

Get 3 melee, 2 healers. Train something.

You now get handed "Gladiator".

Thats how 5s go. For 2s its....

If your a warrior, find a druid. If your anything else, find a rogue.
