Patch 3.2 Should Revive Twinking |
|
Jun 20, 2009 - 10:35 AM - by Comicus
|
Just when people were saying twinking was dead or dying, it looks like Blizzard decided to throw us a huge bone with patch 3.2! Check out some of the key twink-friendly highlights from the upcoming patch:
# Battlegrounds
* Battleground experience has arrived!
o Players will now be awarded experience for completing objectives and actions that yield honor in Battlegrounds (honorable kills not included).
o Players who do not wish to gain experience through PvP can visit Behsten in Stormwind or Slahtz in Orgrimmar - both located near the Battlemasters in either city - and turn off all experience accumulation for the cost of 10 gold.
o Disabling experience gains will prevent a player from gaining experience through any means available in the game.
o Players with experience gains turned off who compete in Battlegrounds will face off only against other players with experience gains turned off.
o Behsten and Slahtz can reinstate experience gains for players, for a 10 gold fee of course. Any experience that would've been accumulated if experience gains were enabled cannot be recovered.
* Battlemasters in major cities affiliated with specific Battlegrounds have been replaced with a Battlemaster for each faction that will allow players to queue for any Battleground. Battlemasters for specific Battlegrounds will still be seen around the cities during... [Read More]

Original Twink Community Turns Three! |
|
Jan 04, 2009 - 11:39 AM - by Comicus

My how time flies! Pwn Depot (formerly Battleground Forums) is celebrating *three years* of providing the best twink information to the World of Warcraft twink community.
It is hard to believe, but this month marks the three year anniversary of what started out as a small, private community for Spinebreaker’s twink community back in January, 2006. It didn’t take long for word of the site to spread to twinks on other servers. Then, when cross-realm battlegrounds were introduced, the site blew up (almost literally….as we had over 2,000 visitors within a 15-minute period and quickly learned that it was time to get a dedicated server).
Krooki and I just wanted to take a moment to thank the thousands of registered members, the countless lurkers, the moderation staff, the skilled and talented twink guide authors, and the original BG Forums folks who have helped make PwnDepot.com what it is today – the first and best World of Warcraft twink community. The site has gone through a lot of changes and of course, as with any good original concept, many sites have popped up over the years to try and imitate what we’ve done. However, there can be only one original and we are extremely proud that Pwn Depot remains the premier site for twink guides, information and discussion after all these years.
Thank you all very much for continuing to make the first twink site the best twink site. Happy birthday to us and happy New Year to all of you!

Blizzard to Add Experience Gain to Battlegrounds? Everyone Relax! |
|
Oct 12, 2008 - 11:37 AM - by Comicus

Blizzard may be planning to allow players to gain experience in battlegrounds. There…I said it. We’ve all seen at least 100 threads on the subject. We’ve all heard the rumors. Apparently, during Blizzcon 2008, Blizzard hinted that they plan to make add experience gain to PvP battlegrounds.
The sky is not falling. Let’s all step back and think about this before we make another “QQ I quit” post on the forums. Blizzard has not ever said, or even implied, that they will add *mandatory* experience gain to battlegrounds.
We are not talking about Mom & Pop’s Hot Dog Stand here. We are talking about Blizzard Entertainment, producers of the most successful MMORPG of all time (by a large margin at that). Blizzard did not leap to the top of the MMO food chain by alienating pockets of their player/customer base.
They are fully aware of the number of paying customers who focus primarily, if not exclusively, on their twinks. They are also fully aware of the fact that they stand to lose roughly $16 per month for each of those players if they were to implement something like mandatory experience in battlegrounds.
Let’s set panic aside for a moment and look at what the real repercussion of what is likely to be optional experience gain in battlegrounds: an influx of lower level, poorly geared players in each bracket. We’ve all experienced it. We have all groaned after taking a queue and finding ourselves surrounded by a team full... [Read More]

Blizzard Opens Up PvE to PvP Server Transfers |
|
Sep 11, 2008 - 11:36 AM - by Comicus

How many times have we all wished that we could move a character we rolled on a "carebear" PvE server over to a PvP server? Well, wish no more! Blizzard recently announced that they have opened up PvE to PvP server transfers.
In the past, it was easy to understand Blizzard's argument against allowing this type of transfer. It was much easier to level up a character on a PvE server. Therefore, allowing someone to level up their character and then simply transfer it over to a PvP server would not really be fair to those who paid their dues on PvP servers. Let's face it, anyone who leveled a character on a PvP server has more than likely taken their lumps by way of getting ganked and/or corpse camped. However, world PvP is not what it used to be in World of Warcraft. The Tauren Mill battle royales of days gone by are just that...gone. These days, if someone wants to PvP, they usually queue up for Battlegrounds or Arenas.
Sure, world PvP still exists to some extent, but I think Blizzard was having a harder and harder time defending their previous stance against allowing PvE to PvP transfers. Also, from a purely financial standpoint, the move makes great sense. Blizzard stands to make a pretty decent windfall of cash with this policy switch. Lots of players will want to try out a PvP server but may not want to re-roll a new character. Many will move to be with their friends and even more may make the switch out of sheer boredom and a desire... [Read More]

Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Should Breathe New Life into Twinking |
|
Jul 25, 2008 - 11:35 AM - by Comicus

So you've got your fishing gear and you forked over the gold for your enchants, librams and leg armor. Perhaps you've even managed to score some Naxx enchants for your shoulders. You've racked up more than 25,000 lifetime kills in the past month. The question you have no doubt asked yourself is the same question currently perplexing World of Warcraft twinks across the globe; Now what?!?
Wrath of the Lich King Achievements, that's what!
Blizzard recently announced that the Wrath of the Lich King expansion will introduce a series of new goals and rewards, many of which will be based on PvP objectives. For example, return the flag 5 times during a Warsong Gulch battle and you will receive the Frenzied Defender award. Prefer a little more PewPewPew in your stew? Get 20 Killing Blows without dying in a single battleground and you will earn the Grim Reaper award.
You are probably asking yourself, “can I cash in my achievement points for fabulous prizes?” That depends on your definition of “fabulous.” While you won’t have the luxury of exchanging achievement points for a Cloak of Elevendy Billion Stamina, you will be able to get some nifty show-off items like non-combat pets and tabards.
This is a huge step forward for the World of Warcraft Twink community, particularly the team players who focus on winning rather than those who make a mad dash for the enemy’s graveyard and proceed to set up shop for the remainder of the... [Read More]
